T2029 joins game based on first movie already in the works

First there was The Terminator, then Total Recall – it was only a matter of time before a board game based on The Terminator 2: Judgement Day appeared.

James Cameron’s endlessly quotable 1991 sequel is being transformed into a tabletop game by Rule & Make, the Australian studio behind the adaptation of video game Hand of Fate.

T2029 is set after the movie’s timeframe of 1995 and follows commanders from the human army led by John Connor as they attempt to hack into Skynet’s defence grid, reprogram Arnie’s T-800 and send it back in time to protect the younger Connor.

Gameplay will apparently consist of a mix of miniatures, dice drafting and cardplay, with players needing to hold off Skynet forces as Connor makes his way to Skynet’s HQ.

There’s no mention of any of the game being set in the ‘past’ seen largely in the film – instead, the plan is to expand the little-seen War Against the Machines between humanity and the robot uprising.

Rule & Make has teased a trailer for the game, which will be released on the 20th anniversary of the fictional (at least for now…) Judgement Day seen in the movie – August 29th 2017.

T2029 is due out next year, with a Kickstarter planned for this September.
