Games Workshop is working on an official Warhammer 40,000 animated series due to broadcast next year, the miniatures giant has revealed.

Angels of Death will follow a squad of Blood Angels Space Marines as they engage in battle with the enemies of Mankind, as well as dealing with the Black Rage – a genetic flaw in Blood Angels chapters that can cause them to go insane and become irreversibly consumed by anger and fury.

The show will be the first animated series properly sanctioned by Games Workshop, and is being helmed by the creators of fan series Helsreach, an animation inspired by the Warhammer 40,000 novel of the same name that was later combined into a film.

“Turns out, Helsreach wasn’t even close to their A-game!” Games Workshop said in the announcement.

That team is joining forces with some of the authors involved with Games Workshop’s Black Library of in-universe novels to tell a ‘grimdark’ tale of “epic battle, heroic sacrifice, loads of explosions, brutal close-combat chainsword duels and some pathos-laden dialogue that’ll fill your belly with fire and stretch your heart strings to breaking”.

Angels of Death will be released in 2019 via Games Workshop’s Warhammer TV YouTube channel.
