Three-volume set will include kid-friendly variant My Uncle the Baron and 12 suggestions for settings and characters

Collaborative storytelling party game The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen’s third edition will be released later this month, Fantasy Flight has announced.

Designed by James Wallis – whom regular TTG readers will recognise as the author behind the fantastic All the Jahres features in the magazine – the RPG-but-not-quite-an-RPG involves a group of up to 20 players attempting to spin the best yarn as their rivals attempt to throw a stick through the spokes by bidding with tokens and forcing the storyteller to incorporate new details at any point during their monologue. Finally, players vote for their favourite story and pass coins to the author to decide a winner.

The third edition of Munchausen is split across three parts: the original game, a variant aimed at younger players called My Uncle the Baron, and a completely new addition with 12 suggestions for settings and characters, including a Lovecraftian tale of duelling Cthulhu with a sword.

The third edition of The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen is due out on December 15th.

As a side note, it’s really worth reading the Fantasy Flight announcement post for the release, which stays in character as the silver-tongued Baron and captures some of the ridiculous fun of the game.
