Gretchinz! involves double-sided cards that reveal upcoming danger on the track

The designers behind last year’s Captain Sonar have announced their next project – but it’s an ocean away from the brilliant submarine party game.

Roberto Fraga and Yohan Lemonnier are working on Gretchinz!, a card-driven racing game based on the sci-fi universe of Warhammer 40,000.

Starring the small Ork-like creatures behind the wheels of bonkers Mad Maxian driving machines, Gretchinz! uses an interesting series of double-sided tarot-sized cards to let players see which attacks they’re able to use, while their rivals get a hint at the potential dangers coming up on the track on the reverse.

Each player controls one vehicle and chooses a Gretchin Klan to side with, granting an extra special ability during the race.

It’s a quick game, playing in about 20 minutes with two to four people, and has been illustrated by the Eisner-nominated cartoonist Albert Monteys.

Gretchinz! will be out next March.
