Resident Evil 3: The Board Game Is Coming to Kickstarter

Bet they didn't wash their hands.

If the blood and gore of 90’s Video Games didn’t fulfil your appetite, perhaps some survival horror boardgames inspired by them will help. Following on from the success of Resident Evil 2: The Board Game, Steamforged and Capcom are back to launch Resident Evil 3: The Board Game to Kickstarter beginning 28 April 2020.

This is not the first video game Steamforged has given the board game treatment, as well as Resident Evil, its CV also includes Devil May Cry, Horizon Zero Dawn, and even Dark Souls.  If you’re curious as to our thoughts on playing Resident Evil 2: The Board Game, before looking at its sequel, you can take a look at our review by clicking here.

Based on the original 1998 classic PlayStation game, that went on to sell over three million copies, the board game is for between 1 and 4 players, who will take control of the iconic original characters like Jill Valentine and Carols Oliveira. The aim is to escape Racoon City amid the T-Virus Outbreak, with undead monsters increasing the difficulty as the game goes.

The game offers either one-shot scenarios for quicker gameplay, or an over 19 hour campaign with overarching storyline. As part of this, the tension deck – a praised part of Resident Evil 2’s gameplay – returns, which its makers statement reads ‘will surprise players with unexpected threats to replicate the terrifying suspense of the video game’.

Fans of the video game will be pleased to find the designer Sherwin Matthews, self proclaims himself as a superfan of the original franchise. Matthews also designed the board game for Resident Evil 2, so much like the earlier game it is likely to be rewarding for fans of the series.
