Team trios returning after a decade for Pro Tour 25th

Magic: The Gathering turns a quarter of a century old in 2018 and, to mark the occasion, publisher Wizards of the Coast has announced a series of tournaments with a million dollars up for grabs.

Pro Tour 25th Anniversary will be the fourth Pro Tour of the 2017-2018 season of competitions and will take place from August 3rd to 5th next year, ahead of the World Cup in Barcelona in mid-December.

The 2018 run of tournaments will mark a move back to Modern Constructed beginning with the Rivals of Ixalan Pro Tour in February.

The Pro Tour 25th will go one step further, bringing back the Team Trios Constructed format for the first time in more than a decade, having last been used for pro Magic in 2005.

In Team Trios, three players team up to play (and win) as a team, with each competitor specialising in either Standard, Modern and Legacy matches. Hopefuls will be picked from the top finished of the preceding Pro Tours, the team Grands Prix, regional Pro Tour qualifiers and Pro Club or Hall of Fame members.

Between Pro Tour 25th and a ‘special exhibition tournament’ taking place at the same time, there will be $1,000,000 in the prize pool.

This year’s Magic World Championship will take place from October 6th to 8th, with $100,000 going to the winner. The 2017 World Cup will then take place in France from December 1st to 3rd.
