London’s V&A Museum of Childhood to hold events dedicated to Catan and Pandemic in March

With its Game On board games exhibition in full flow until April, the V&A Museum of Childhood in London has announced three more events focused on celebrating and exploring the tabletop world.

First up is a day dedicated to Catan, run by the people behind the annual Mind Sports Olympiad (MSO) competition, which features Catan among its varied tournaments.

Taking place from 10 in the morning to 5pm on Saturday, March 18th, the Catan day will invite players to compete against each other in the hope of winning an all you can play ticket for the 2017 MSO in August, as well as gold, silver and bronze medals.

Entry costs £7 (you’ll also have to be aged eight or over) and you can expect to take part in three rounds with four players per game.

The following week will see another major board game recognised by the museum: Pandemic.

Pandemic Live! will pit a team of comedians, including Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Seymour Mace and Slaving Away creator and star Miranda Kane, against Matt Leacock’s co-op disease-battling hit.

The two-and-a-half-hour game will be hosted by 2015 UK Carcassonne champion James Cook from 6:30pm onwards on Thursday, March 23rd. Tickets are a tenner.

Finally, at the start of April, the Museum of Childhood will open its doors for a contemporary board games study day, featuring chats from designers and academics on how to create for the tabletop as well as a board games jam where attendees will attempt to make their own title. It will run all day (10am to 4:30pm) on Saturday, April 1st, and will cost £20 – or £15 for concessions, such as students.
