New WizKids range will bring extra figures to HeroClix after Star Trek: Tactics adopted format for ships

WizKids is expanding its HeroClix range of collectible figures with characters from the Star Trek universe.

HeroClix has previously explored DC and Marvel comic characters from Superman and Batman through to the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as stretching out in film, TV and video game worlds such as Assassin’s Creed, Lord of the Rings, Street Fighter and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Of course, the HeroClix format and rules system was previously used for ships from Star Trek in spin-off game Star Trek: Tactics, although the difference in focus meant that the vessels couldn’t directly compete with Spider-Man and Deadpool. (Even as superheroes, that might be a little one-sided.)

WizKids did release a spin-off set of characters from Star Trek in 2012’s Away Team pack, which featured Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Scotty, Sulu and Chekov from the Original Series, who could do battle with the regular HeroClix models.

Now it seems that the publisher will build on this with a new range of characters from Star Trek, who will be able to be integrated into a standard game of HeroClix.

Content continues after advertisements

"Star Trek: Tactics is the same game platform as HeroClix but, because it would be a bit weird to have ships and characters at the same table, we’ve always handled it as its own separate game," the firm’s Scott D'Agostino explained to ICv2.

"But we always wanted to bring the Star Trek universe into our modern age format and, with that, it makes the most sense to have characters. So you can have Kirk and Superman."

The first wave in the untitled upcoming series will be out this autumn. Beyond the mention of Kirk, there’s no word on which characters from which incarnations of Star Trek might make an appearance.
