But what does this book (and those inside it) have in store for us?

Wizards of the Coast has announced their newest Dungeons & Dragons book, in the Candlekeep Mysteries. Unlike books before it, it is a collection of 17 brand new one shot adventures, from 19 different designers.

The adventures will be surrounding the library fortress of Candlekeep, which fans of the Forgotten Realms campaign will be familiar with, as an introduction to Baldur's Gate. It will include titles such as 'The Canopic Being', 'Kandlekeep Dekonstruktion', and 'Zikran's Zephyrean Tome', which all feature a book causing some kind of adventure-perfect mayhem.

"Candlekeep attracts scholars like a flame attracts moths. Historians, sages, and others who crave knowledge flock to this library fortress to peruse its vast collection of books, scribbled into which are the answers to the mysteries that bedevil them. Many of these books contain their own mysteries ̶—each one a doorway to adventure. Dare you cross that threshold?" says the description.

The stories can be played as one-shots, for which they are designed, but can easily be dropped into regular campaigns as a self-contained adventure. The adventures will be for those of levels 1-16.

You'll also find within it a poster map of Candlekeep, of the library fortress, and a write up of the characters who live there, plus a variety of monsters and items included within this 145 page book.

Writers for this include Graeme Barber, Kelly Lynne D’angelo, Alison Huang, Mark Hulmes, Jennifer Kretchmer, Daniel Kwan, Adam Lee, Ari Levitch, Sarah Madsen, Christopher Perkins, Michael Polkinghorn, Taymoor Rehman, Derek Ruiz, Kienna Shaw, Brandes Stoddard, Amy Vorpahl, and Toni Winslow-Brill.

An alternative cover will also be available from Friendly Local Game Stores, with a soft touch finish, which will release on the same day.
