Someone has found what could be the first Magic: The Gathering card set to be worth 7 figures. What makes it so valuable?

An incredibly rare Magic: The Gathering card was been found following the release of a new set that crosses over with JRR Tolkien's beloved fantasy series. It is said that the card could be worth up to seven figures. So far the lucky owner of the card has remained anonymous, but the card could sell for over $2 million. However, since the card was found, Magic packs from the same set have fallen in value as collectors give up the hunt to find 'the golden ticket.'

It seems that the hunt for the One Ring to rule them all is over and collectors have called it quits, after it was revealed that the one of a kind card has been found, believed to have been purchased by a retail worker in Toronto, Canada. Proof of its discovery came via the grading company PSA, which posted an image of the card on the 30th June 2023. Commonly sold in booster packs of 15 cards, the discovery of the "One Ring" was flown to California to be authenticated before being given a grading of Mint 9.

Understandably, the bearer has expressed that they wish to remain anonymous to protect their "precious" card. In a statement given to CBC News, they stated "My hands were literally shaking. I couldn't believe it was real...These things don't happen to people like me."

According to Hasbro, the odds of finding it were less than 0.00003%, sparking interest across the world among both players and non-players. Many avid collectors are already offering millions to purchase it with such offers making the "One Ring" Magic's first ever card to be valued at seven-figures.

Why is the One Ring card so valuable?

The "One Ring" is a one-of-a-kind card and collectible created for the table-top fantasy game Magic: The Gathering. It was created part of a recent collaboration celebrating J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of The Rings.

The 'shiny' card has gold lettering printed in the Black Speech of Sauron (a fictional language created by Tolkien) and, since being discovered and authenticated, is currently in a bidding war which could reach millions of dollars.
