For more than 30 years one event has been part of the Scottish gaming community, that event is Claymore. Traditionally held on the first Saturday of August and organised by the South East Scotland Wargames Club (seswc.co.uk) Claymore is Scotland’s premier wargames show and has been going from strength to strength, becoming so popular that the organisers ran out of entry wristbands.

With more than 30 traders in attendance and about the same number of games clubs there is certainly a feast for the eyes and plenty of treats to hurt your wallet. In recent years Claymore has been hosted by Edinburgh College Granton Campus, a fantastic modern venue with great onsite parking and public transport connections to the city centre and will continue to be the venue in future years. Held in two spacious halls over two buildings, Claymore really offers a bit of relief from the convention crush most of us will have experienced in the past and lets you have a good wander to shop and sample the games on offer.

What Claymore lacks in large companies it sure makes up for with a focus on smaller local businesses. The largest and most well known perhaps being the fantastic Warlord Games, sharing space with local companies such as Edinburgh-based 6s2Hit and each drawing large crowds throughout the day.

All-in-all Claymore is an event not to be missed, housing a little something for everyone no matter what niche of the hobby you are drawn to. It can only get bigger and even better, so mark your calendars and I’ll see you there next year!
