Two of the best-known names in tabletop design are working together on a new card game.

Khan of Khans is based on a design by prolific creator Reiner Knizia, renowned for Lord of the Rings, Ra and Tigris & Euphrates, and set in the realm of Prax within the fantasy world of Glorantha, created by Greg Stafford and the location of other titles including RuneQuest, HeroQuest and White Bear and Red Moon.

The game also includes lore elements of Stafford’s own 1978 wargame Nomad Gods, co-designed with Robert Corbett.

Two to five players lead a tribe attempting to retrieve the most cattle from Dragon Pass while avoiding stampedes, evil magic and rival thieves.

As well as the five khan cards inspired by real and fantasy creatures (bison, high llama, impala, sable and morokanth), the box includes 80 location cards and 13 corrals illustrated by The Gallerist and Vinhos artist Ian O’Toole.

Call of Cthulhu publisher Chaosium will bring the project to market, and is looking for $10,000 on Kickstarter to make it a reality – a target it has almost already passed, having gathered $9,500 with 20 days left to run.

The boxed edition is $20 (£16), with a print and play version available for $9 (£7).
