Arkham Horror: TCG, Santorini and Star Wars: Destiny lead two-player category
This year’s shortlist for the International Gamers Awards has been revealed, highlighting some of the best games of the last 12 months.
Originally known as The Gamers’ Choice Awards, the IGA have been around since 1999 and are a self-described measure of the ‘best of the best’ in tabletop gaming as decided by an industry jury.
Largely focused on strategy titles – a separate prize used to recognise an outstanding historical simulation before it was ended in 2009 – the IGA has previously crowned games including Puerto Rico, Through the Ages, Agricola, 7 Wonders, Terra Mystica and, last year’s winner, Mombasa.
A second award celebrates the best games for two players, with 7 Wonders Duel picking up the 2016 accolade.
This year’s main category will see A Feast for Odin, Century: Spice Road, First Class, Gloomhaven, Great Western Trail, Key to the City: London, Lorenzo il Magnifico, Magic Maze, Scythe, Terraforming Mars, The Colonists, Ulm and Yokohama battle it out to take home the title.
Meanwhile, the two-player category is a much shorter list, with Arkham Horror: The Card Game, Caverna: Cave vs. Cave, Holmes: Sherlock & Mycroft, Santorini and Star Wars: Destiny going head-to-head.
