Sad news for wargamers one of the UK’s biggest one-day wargames show is cancelled

Salute, the UK’s largest historical, sci-fi, and fantasy wargaming show has been cancelled for 2020.

The show will return next year on 17th April 2021. All traders will retain their positions for future events.

The one-day show was scheduled for Saturday 18th April 2020. The show was cancelled after guidance to the ExCeL and the show by the UK Government.

Here is the statement issued last night:

It is with deep regret that we must announce that Salute 2020, due to be hosted by the South London Warlords wargames club, at London Excel on Saturday 18th April 2020, is being postponed.

Due to the ongoing, unprecedented crisis with the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The Club committee has taken this decision following the recent change in Government advice and with the likely ongoing uncertainty in mind. We understand that this will impact all of you and therefore, as you can imagine, this difficult decision has not been taken lightly or easily: we have balanced all the great things about Salute with the health risks to traders, gamers and attendees.

Run by the South London Warlords, Salute! has been running in some form since 1972. Salute 2020 was to be the 48th show. The show was to cover 10 of the enormous halls at ExCeL London.

Salute 2020 was to have the ‘Battle of Britain’ theme, and to commemorate this a Spitfire and Hurricane were both to be in attendance. The Salute model of the year was to be a 28mm schoolboy flying a model spitfire – charmingly rendered by Paul Hicks.

Today is a sad day for wargamers everywhere who will be missing out on the huge range of sci-fi, fantasy and historical wargaming. It is, of course, in everyone’s best interests.

Please be patient with organisers as they arrange next year's show and jump through any logistical hoops required to finalise this year's cancellation. It's a community show, and they are working in the best interests of the community. We expect the organisers to issue a statement for attendees over the next couple of days.
