Sparking excitement

Power Grid, Friedemann Friese’s weighty Eurogame about distributing electricity between cities, is celebrating its 15th birthday with a brand new version of the board game.

Power Grid: Recharged Version will become the new standard edition of the game when it’s released next March, taking into account largely small improvements to the rules refined over the last decade and a half.

Publisher 2F-Spiele has also announced that it will be releasing a comprehensive FAQ for Power Grid and its 12 (!) expansions in January that will bring the add-ons into line with the gameplay tweaks in the Recharged edition. Updated versions of the expansions are due to follow in the future.

The Recharged Version will include Power Grid’s two-player variant introduced in the Deluxe Edition of the game, as well two different game board layouts. Additional variants for two players will be in the rulebook, too.

Outside of the slightly adjusted rules, the new edition is largely unchanged from previous Power Grid outings, with no significant revisions of its artwork and design – though it will still include visual improvements such as the clearer player order rows, also from the Deluxe Edition.

All in all, then, it’s not a huge evolution from the Power Grid already out there – but if you haven’t picked up a copy already, it might be worth saving your pennies for this slightly shinier set come 2019.
