Underhive shakeup: Games Workshop memory-holes planned Necromunda TTRPG, pivots to massive 2027 skirmish roadmap
In a sudden and unexpected shift, Games Workshop has officially pulled the plug on its highly anticipated Necromunda Roleplay expansion. The shock cancellation comes just over a month after the standalone tabletop RPG was proudly unveiled as a flagship reveal during the company’s Big Autumn Preview in September 2026.
The game appeared to be in the final stages of development, with GW previously showcasing polished box art, fully painted miniatures, and completed rulebooks right down to the exact page counts. A few weeks ago, hobbyists noticed that all articles, social media posts, and product pages regarding the RPG had been scrubbed from the internet without warning, sparking frantic community speculation.

Now, the silence has been broken. In a fresh statement published on Warhammer Community, the company addressed the cancellation directly, framing it as a strategic redirection toward their core miniature range:
“There’s an exciting year ahead for fans of Necromunda, with a lineup more stuffed than the questionably-sourced contents of a back-alley Scabber’s overcoat… However, there won’t be a Roleplay expansion. After careful consideration we’ve decided to focus our efforts on providing even more great minis for the core game.”
While tabletop RPG fans are left mourning the project, the publisher threw a lifeline to miniature collectors, clarifying that “all the minis we showcased in the Big Autumn Preview are still on their way, and will be available for use in standard games of Necromunda.”

Though the sudden death of the Necromunda TTRPG remains an incredibly rare, eleventh-hour move for the company, underhive players can at least take comfort knowing that 2027 is still poised to be an incredibly busy year on the tabletop. To cushion the blow of the cancellation, Games Workshop unveiled an ambitious seasonal roadmap for the core skirmish game:
• Spring 2027 — Return to the Ash Wastes: The year kicks off in the toxic outer deserts with brand-new rules expansions and what GW promises will be “the biggest plastic vehicle kit yet released for Necromunda.”
• Summer 2027 — Deep Into the Underhells: Players will venture back into the haunted ruins of Hive Secundus. This segment promises expeditions for ancient archeotech and features new fighter options for the Malstrain Genestealer Cults.
• Autumn 2027 — Sinderak City & Underhive Brutes: The setting shifts back to the battle-scarred sectors of Sinderak City. This update turns the spotlight on the original six core underhive houses, bringing massive new hulking brutes—including a teased Luther-pattern Ambot—to reinforce classic gangs.
• Winter 2027 — Bounty Hunters: The year concludes with a focus on cold-blooded mercenaries. A fresh wave of hired guns and specialized mechanics will arrive for trackers hunting down bounties across the radioactive corners of the planet.
