Final Titan, the new card-based battle royale from Magic: The Gathering creator Richard Garfield, will be previewed exclusively at Tabletop Scotland this weekend before its UK release later this year

Richard Garfield’s new card game Final Titan is coming to UK tabletops this Q4 after Zatu Distribution signed an exclusive UK distribution agreement with publisher Nerdlab Games.

UK gamers won’t have to wait long to try the critically acclaimed draft-and-battle game for themselves, as Final Titan will be previewed exclusively at Tabletop Scotland from September 4 to 6, ahead of its full UK retail release later in Q4.

Final Titan is the latest game from legendary designer Richard Garfield, best known as the creator of Magic: The Gathering, alongside Magical Athlete and King of Tokyo. He is joined by Christian Kudahl, designer of Mindbug and Agent Avenue, for a game that combines character drafting with chaotic, dice-driven battles.

How to play Final Titan

Designed for one to five players, Final Titan sees players draft three combatants from a huge pool of 100 characters before throwing them into battle. The objective is simple: defeat your opponents and be the last player standing.

The game’s character roster is where things get particularly unusual. Final Titan is described as a love letter to pop culture, bringing together fighters inspired by major movie, video game and comic book franchises alongside characters drawn from literary classics and creations from the game’s designers.

That means players can expect some decidedly unexpected matchups, with a beefed-up Santa Claus taking on a sandworm, a cursed pirate battling superheroes and Cthulhu going head-to-head with Medusa.

Despite its deliberately chaotic premise, Final Titan is built around a straightforward ruleset. Each character has their own unique abilities and playstyle, with powerful, game-changing effects designed to create wildly different battles from one game to the next. The result is intended to offer plenty of replayability, with the huge character pool creating a vast number of possible combinations and matchups.

The early critical response has already been highly positive. The Dice Tower awarded Final Titan a 9.5/10 and its Seal of Excellence, praising the game’s approach to fast, unpredictable tabletop battles.

While the core game supports up to five players, Final Titan also includes dedicated solo and two-player modes, including a cooperative mode in which players team up to take on a boss.

Rob Trounce of Zatu Distribution said the company was immediately impressed by the game’s ability to generate memorable moments. “From the very first time I sat down to play Final Titan, I was whooping and cheering from the first dice roll. I struggle to think of any games that have provided this many bombastic moments over its short playtime. It’s just pure, unadulterated fun. We’re so excited to get this one in front of UK gamers.”

With Magic: The Gathering creator Richard Garfield behind the design, a roster packed with bizarre character combinations and a format built around quick, explosive battles, Final Titan could be one to watch for UK tabletop gamers looking for their next chaotic card game.
