A perfect reason to not have to talk to your relatives over the holidays
Unsurprisingly, solo scenarios have seen a surge in popularity this year, with many taking up the RPG mantle alone, given it's not possible to meet up in regular RPG groups at the moment. One of the most popular RPG's is certainly Call of Cthulhu from Chaosium, and they bring the news of a new solo adventure, in Alone Against The Tide: Solitaire Adventure by the Lakeshore.
Of course, if you're a reader of our magazine you may have already received a recent scenario, as we spoke with Mike Mason and gave an exclusive Library scenario for you to play in the world of Cthulhu. There are both digital and print versions available, plus of course a whole load of gaming news, interviews and reviews – and if you like the sound of that, there are subscriptions available too so you never miss another one!
In the brand new solo scenario, you'll be trying to discover what Professor Harris' research has to do with the mysterious green fog enveloping the town, questioning who the menacing dark-suited men who accompanied you on the ferry are, and why there's a Buddhist monk visiting the town, all in the remote lakeside town of Esbury.
You can create your own investigator, use one perhaps from a previous scenario, or use the provided one of Dr. E. Woods, a professor of archaeology from Miskatonic University in Arkham. There are multiple ways you can end your story, how will yours turn out?
All you'll need to play is the Scenario, a copy of the Call of Cthulhu Starter Set or Keeper Rulebook (luckily we have both available for you in the Game Store), and some dice and pencils. And whilst it's a solo scenario, these are also great to work through with people regardless, especially those new to Call of Cthulhu - or simply just because it's fun.
We spoke to Mike Mason all about the monsters he creates in Call of Cthulhu as part of Virtual Tabletop Gaming Live 2020, and you can check that out below. For even more from that weekend, we've also got a Call of Cthulhu One Shot from How We Roll, with On The Night Bus, plus loads more on our Youtube Channel.
