Legend in the Mist’s Peddler’s Cart adds daily bonus content including character kits, magical abilities and new gameplay options
Indie RPG publisher Son of Oak Game Studio has launched a month-long online celebration for its acclaimed fantasy RPG Legend in the Mist, giving fans a final chance to pre-order the game before it reaches retail shelves.
Dubbed LaunchFest, the event celebrates the upcoming physical release of the rustic fantasy RPG, with books scheduled to begin shipping worldwide from June 17. According to Son of Oak, the festival began on April 29 and runs right up until the print launch, meaning players still have a 29-day window to join in.
The publisher describes LaunchFest as an online festival packed with “gifts, delights, activities, and competitions,” aimed both at early backers and newcomers curious about the game. Players who pre-order during the event gain instant access to PDF editions, discounted pricing ahead of retail release, and a growing collection of digital extras unlocked throughout the campaign.
One of the headline features is the Peddler’s Cart – a daily-updating bundle of bonus content that includes character kits, magical abilities, crafting recipes and new gameplay options. Son of Oak is also running livestreams, Discord events, polls, meme contests and community competitions with cash prizes during the festival period.
Originally funded on Kickstarter in 2024, Legend in the Mist has grown into one of the most talked-about indie RPGs of recent years. Son of Oak says the game has attracted more than 18,000 supporters and raised over $1.7m through crowdfunding and pre-orders.
Designed around the studio’s Mist Engine, the game replaces traditional RPG statistics with descriptive tags and streamlined 2d6 rolls, with a strong focus on narrative storytelling and collaborative creativity. The system also includes support for solo and GM-less play. The event page includes a free solo comic tutorial, demo adventure and Dungeons & Dragons 5E conversion tools for curious players wanting to sample the system before buying.
