Dungeons & Dragons 2 movie sequel script is complete – and Hasbro is still looking for a studio

The script for a sequel to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is complete and Hasbro just needs to find a studio

A sequel to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is still alive, with directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein confirming that a complete screenplay has been written – and that Hasbro is still looking for a studio partner to bring it to the big screen.

The update comes from The Playlist, which spoke to the filmmaking duo about the future of the Dungeons & Dragons movie franchise. Paramount-Skydance has reportedly passed on financing a follow-up for financial reasons, but that doesn’t mean Dungeons & Dragons 2 has been shelved entirely.

Goldstein confirmed that Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast remain committed to the project, saying: “I think Hasbro is a big believer in it, and if they can figure out a studio partner to make it work, they’ll want to proceed. As are our producers.”

Daley added that the pair are proud of the completed sequel script and remain hopeful that it will eventually find a route to production, although he acknowledged that there are still “practical realities” surrounding its financing.

The potential sequel follows 2023’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which starred Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis and Hugh Grant. The film was widely praised, earning a 91% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, but its approximately $208.2 million worldwide box office against a reported $150 million production budget made a follow-up difficult to justify financially.

Daley believes the first movie also suffered from unfortunate timing, arriving just four days before The Super Mario Bros. Movie and shortly after controversy surrounding changes to Dungeons & Dragons‘ licensing rules.

Fans online celebrated the news of the completed script with calls to bring back the same cast but playing fresh D&D characters, sharing memes and pleas like “SAME ACTORS! RE-ROLL CHARACTERS!! NEW ADVENTURE!”

For now, there is no official green light, release date or confirmed cast for Dungeons & Dragons 2. But with a finished screenplay and Hasbro still looking for a financial partner, the sequel is certainly not dead yet.
