A Court of Thorns and Roses favours a new strategy board game

A Court of Thorns and Roses: Fate and Favor brings Sarah J. Maas’ world of Prythian to the tabletop this October

A Court of Thorns and Roses is getting another board game, with Goliath Games announcing A Court of Thorns and Roses: Fate and Favor, an officially licenced strategy game based on Sarah J. Maas’ bestselling fantasy series.

Announced during Gen Con 2026, Fate and Favor will see players take on the role of a High Lord or High Lady representing one of Prythian’s seven Courts: Night, Day, Dawn, Winter, Summer, Spring and Autumn.

Players will compete for influence across Prythian, while forging alliances and navigating shifting loyalties. The game features characters from Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses novels, with players able to use character abilities and Court powers as they attempt to gain the most influence.

The game has been developed by Goliath in collaboration with global licensing agency IMG Licensing, with Jochanan Golad, CEO of Goliath, describing it as a strategy experience created by a team of dedicated readers.

“From the beginning, our goal was to create a game that feels worthy of the world that Sarah J. Maas built,” Golad says. “Many members of our team have been A Court of Thorns and Roses fans for years, and that passion shaped every decision, from the gameplay and artwork to the materials and final design.”

However, this isn’t the first officially licensed board game based on the series. Monopoly: A Court of Thorns and Roses Edition, which brings the familiar property-trading game into the world of Prythian, holds that honour. The Monopoly edition is inspired by the first three books in the series and allows players to explore its seven Courts, with the standard Monopoly locations and components reimagined around Maas’ fantasy world.

However, Fate and Favor represents a significant departure from that approach. Rather than adapting an existing mass-market board game, Goliath has created a new strategy game built specifically around the world and relationships of A Court of Thorns and Roses. Players can choose one of the seven Courts and attempt to build their influence, with alliances and relationships playing a role in how the game unfolds. Fate tokens and event cards can introduce further twists, meaning the balance of power can shift during a game. The game was shown to attendees at Gen Con and is set for a retail launch in October 2026, with a special “Bookseller Variant” featuring exclusive packaging also planned.
