Happy 11th Birthday Tabletop Gaming Magazine!

29 May 2026

Tabletop Gaming magazine is 11 years old today, having launched at UK Games Expo in 2015! We asked five Editors to reveal their highlights over 115 issues and counting…

Since June 2015, board gaming has shifted from a hobbyist niche to a mainstream entertainment sector. Board games have become more ambitious, more accessible and more professional – all at the same time. And Tabletop Gaming magazine (TTG) has been here to walk you through every new innovation and evolution during those 11 years!

The first ever issue of Tabletop Gaming Magazine

How has Tabletop Gaming has evolved in 11 years?

We’ve witnessed the rise of the ‘Golden Age’ of tabletop gaming, as systems designed to crowdfund indie passion projects built major new publishers. We were there when Covid forced us all indoors, creating a pandemic-era boost that truly pushed the hobby into the mainstream. We watched as solo gaming exploded, including dedicated systems such as automas and AI decks. And as many gamers now look to board games for a more authentic experience away from screens, we’ll be here as those same games continue their digital integration – with Tabletop Simulator and Board Game Arena driving online play, as mobile apps deliver tutorials and manage hidden information.

And alongside these shifts, we’ve seen communities grow stronger and more connected than ever before. Local game stores have evolved into vibrant social hubs, conventions have expanded in both size and cultural significance and online spaces have enabled players from around the world to share strategies, stories and creativity at an unprecedented scale. Designers have pushed boundaries with innovative mechanics, richer narratives and more inclusive themes, ensuring that tabletop gaming continues to welcome new audiences while still delighting long-time enthusiasts.

As we look ahead, the future feels just as exciting as the past eleven years have been. New technologies, emerging voices and shifting player expectations will continue to reshape what tabletop gaming can be. And through it all, Tabletop Gaming Magazine will remain at the heart of the conversation celebrating the people, the ideas and the shared experiences that make this hobby so special.
