Cross-platform confirmed, Architects of the West Kingdom app teased

Raiders of the North Sea, Shem Phillips’ fantastic worker-placement board game set during the age of Vikings, will see a digital release on PC, iOS and Android, and Nintendo Switch next week.

Raiders is the middle chapter in Phillips’ North Sea trilogy, preceded by Shipwrights and followed by Explorers – the three can be played as a single campaign thanks to expansion Runesaga.

In the game, players build up their clan of Norse warriors before sending them out to raid settlements, using the goods acquired to make their village bigger and better – and earn victory points along the way, of course.

The wonderfully accessible – and beautifully illustrated, thanks to artist Mihajlo Dimitrievski – Eurogame earned its designer a nod for the 2017 Kennerspiel des Jahres prize and a wider release later that year following a successful Kickstarter campaign.

A digital version of Raiders of the North Sea was first announced at the start of 2019 as part of a barrage of upcoming apps from developer Dire Wolf Digital, which included PC and mobile versions of Mage Knight, Root, Wings of Glory, Yellow & Yangtze and more.

Now, the studio has revealed that Raiders of the North Sea will be launched on Steam, the iOS App Store, Google Play for Android and Nintendo’s Switch eShop next Tuesday, July 30th. It’s also put out a teaser trailer for the game, which you can watch below – although it’s lacking actual gameplay.

Dire Wolf confirmed that the app will feature cross-platform online multiplayer, letting players on different devices and platforms take each other on.

It also hinted at a future app for the first game in Phillips’ follow-up trilogy, Architects of the West Kingdom – though, given how many other games it currently has in the works, that might be a while.
