Through the Ages is getting its long-awaited first expansion next year

The first expansion for Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization will finally be in your hands next year. Well, it’ll be on your phone screen in your hands, at the very least.

The untitled add-on for Vlaada Chvátil’s civ-building gem has been in the works since at least 2016, ending up delayed from a planned release in 2017 in order to fine-tune its balance through playtesting to an expected arrival this year. Now it seems that 2019 will be the first chance to see what Chvátil has cooked up for the much-loved card game epic.

In an email celebrating the first anniversary of Through the Ages’ launch on mobile, publisher Czech Games Edition revealed that it is working on several updates for the app – including “a big one” coming “soon” – and announced that it would release the game’s first expansion “early next year”.

It’s important to note that CGE doesn’t specify whether the physical expansion will launch alongside its digital counterpart, or whether the app will be used to further tweak and polish it before it’s made permanent on ink and card.

As previously teased by the company, the expansion will include new leaders and wonders. Beyond that, it’s remaining quiet on what else it might bring to the game. We’ll find out in 2019!
