Italian Game of the Year winner out in English early next year

If you spot a hedge shaped like a T-rex, you can bet that you’re going to want to get a good look at it and take a picture for your Instagram or whatever it is kids are into these days. But what’s this? There’s a load of people stood in your way? Argh, why is enjoying horticulture so darn difficult?

That’s the question posed by Topiary, a game due out early next year that challenges players to rearrange their hedge sculptures and organise their meeple visitors so that everyone can enjoy their view of gardening greatness.

Doing so grants points, as the visitors get the best perspective of a grid of topiary creations from 20-sided polyhedrons and spirals to swans, elephants, whales and, yes, a T-rex.

Both designed and illustrated by Danny Devine, Topiary was originally released over in Italy earlier this year, where it picked up the Italian Game of the Year award. US publisher Renegade will be re-releasing an English version at the beginning of 2018.

Topiary plays with two to four people and only takes around 15 minutes to half an hour to play, leaving more time to Google ‘best hedge sculptures’ at your leisure.
