SmiteWorks launches Fantasy Grounds Unity on Kickstarter
SmiteWorks is proud to announce the release of the latest version of their virtual tabletop software, Fantasy Grounds Unity. It builds upon the strengths of the old platform but adds new features such as Dynamic Lighting, Advanced Fog of War, Tile Based Map Building, Paint with Images, New Dice Macro Suport, 64 bit support, Native Mac/Linux/Windows, Simplified Network with Cloud Hosting and more features to be revealed later.
For those who are new to virtual tabletops, this will allow players to play tabletop roleplaying games such as Dungeon & Dragons online or use it at the table to help manage the player's campaign and keep the game running smoothly and efficiently from session to session. Some of the new features help to increase the immersion so players can't feel like a vibrant part of the fantasy or sci-fi world that gamemasters create.
Fantasy Grounds was first released in 2004 as the creation of three developers from Finland. Doug Davison, President of SmiteWorks states, "When I first bought the program as an end-user in 2008, I was excited about the future possibilities of the program. This led me to buy the company in 2009 and start working on molding it to fit my vision. Fast forward to 2019 and I now have a team of like-minded developers, staff and community members that have helped us achieve the next major milestone in that vision."

We have the most officially licensed game systems of any virtual tabletop software. Our community is quite strong and has continued to grow over the years. It now exceeds 130,000 licensed users and an unknown number of users connecting to GMs running Ultimate licenses. We've built Fantasy Grounds to be customized, re-skinned, tweaked and used as an engine to create your own adventures for others to share. We often engage our most prolific members of the community to perform additional commissioned work for us and it has allowed us to do much more than a small dev shop would normally be able to accomplish.
