Historical board game Memoir ’44 is to receive a new expansion later this year.

The Battles of Khalkhin-Gol is named for the series of battles that took place along the river of the same name on the Soviet-Japanese border at the start of World War II.

The pack will include six standard scenarios, plus two pre-printed Breakthrough and two Overlord scenarios, with all but one of the Overlord scenarios able to be played as part of a campaign; the Overlord scenario Cape Torokina Landings is instead set several years after the Khalkhin-Gol conflicts and features US and Japanese troops, rather than Soviet forces.

12 miniatures are included in the set, split evenly between Soviet BA-10 Armored Cars and Japanese Type 97 Te-Ke tankettes. The oversized maps come with terrain, obstacles and units positions pre-printed.

In order to use the expansion, which is designed for between two and eight players, you’ll need a copy of the base game, plus the previous Terrain Pack, Eastern Front and Pacific Theater expansions. Two copies of Memoir ’44 are needed for the Overlord scenarios.

The Battles of Khalkhin-Gol is due out this December, and will cost €25 in Europe ($28 over in the US).
