A new Harry Potter board game set during Order of the Phoenix will give you the chance to take down He Who Must Not Be Named together.

Harry Potter: Death Eaters Rising is built on the gameplay of Avengers game Thanos Rising, which has since swapped the snap-happy Marvel villain for Darth Vader in the A New Hope-inspired Star Wars: Dark Side Rising.

It’s Voldemort that takes centre stage in Death Eaters Rising. Almost quite literally – as with the figure of Thanos and Vader bust of the previous games in the series, the Harry Potter spin-off features a plastic statue of the evil wizard in the middle of its board, which spins to activate his minions.

Meanwhile, the players race to recruit characters from the Order of the Phoenix, Dumbledore’s Army and year-five Hogwarts students, with the likes of Dumbledore, McGonagall, Sirius Black, Hagrid, ‘Mad-Eye’ Moody, Snape and even Filch’s cat Mrs. Norris joining the cause. Of course, Harry, Ron and Hermione are all present and correct, too.

On the opposing side, Wormtail, Bellatrix Lestrange and Lucius Malfoy join the Death Eaters and dark wizards trying to corrupt locations across the wizarding world – the Ministry of Magic, Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade are all mentioned – before Voldemort is defeated, leading to a loss for the players.

It’s worth mentioning that Death Eaters Rising is based specifically on the Order of the Phoenix film, rather than the book, so expect stills and character portraits from the movie.

The game plays in around 45 minutes to an hour and a half with two to four people, and is planned for release this autumn. It's the third Harry Potter tabletop game out of studio The OP this year, following a magical edition of Scrabble and a two-player spin-off from deckbuilder Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle, Defence Against the Dark Arts.
