Retribution hero pack ‘just not feasible at this time’

Guardians, the Overwatch-inspired hero card game from Summoner Wars maker Plaid Hat, has been put on ice – potentially for good – following the indefinite delay of its next expansion.

Guardians: Retribution, the second hero pack for the competitive card-battling game after Uprising, was originally planned for a release later this year, expanding the roster of superpowered characters available for players to draft into their three-person squad.

In an update on its website, Plaid Hat confirmed that Retribution would miss its 2019 release, saying “continuing with the expansion is just not feasible at this time”.  No revised release date was given.

“Hopefully, we will be able to continue the Guardians line in the future, but unfortunately that won’t be in 2019,” it added, throwing potential uncertainty on the continuation of the card game as a whole.

Pre-orders for Retribution have been cancelled, while copies of the Uprising hero pack remain available for the time being – how long that will remain the case is unclear.
