Hot off the heels of its tabletop adaptations of Evil Dead 2 and The Terminator, fresh-faced publisher Space Goat has announced its third board game based on a cult 1980s film franchise: The Howling.

The Howling is often overshadowed by director Joe Dante’s next solo movie, 1984's Gremlins. (He was also responsible for sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Small Soldiers and Piranha.)

Despite this, the 1981 werewolf horror flick went on to gather a passionate following, award recognition and seven sequel films – as well as kickstarting Dante’s career.

The Howling follows TV newswoman Karen White as she travels to a secluded resort called The Colony – only to discover that the retreat is populated by lycanthropes.

Space Goat’s The Howling board game will be accompanied by a four-issue comic book mini-series, The Howling: Revenge of the Werewolf Queen, written by New York Times best-selling author & former lead writer for video games developer Blizzard Entertainment, Micky Neilson. The series is set for release next summer and will take place immediately after the film.

The board game’s release date is yet to be announced – as is confirmation of whether it will take to Kickstarter (as with Evil Dead 2 and The Terminator) to seek crowdfunding.
