"Emperor Nero demands entertainment"

PSC Games (The Plastic Soldier Company) have announced at SPIEL.Digital a new expansion to their Rome & Roll game, called Gladiators.

The original sees you rebuilding Rome after it was burnt down, by drafting from a pool of custom dice for resources and icons that let you build on the map of the seven hills. In addition, you'll collect legionnaires, invade settlements, and build a network of roads, all while ensuring you have the correct resources.

The expansion to this game will be designed by the original team from Rome & Roll, with Dávid Turczi and Nick Shaw, and will head over to Kickstarter in early 2021.

The expansion adds the element of entertainment to the game. Now, you're not just rebuilding the city of Rome after the great fire, but you're also ensuring gladiators provide appropriate entertainment for Emperor Nero.

You'll now have to build Ludi, where gladiators are trained, arenas to practice, and then on to the Colosseum!

“Our aim with the Gladiators expansion was to enhance the combos that made the core game kick, and push them to eleven!” says designer Dávid Turczi.

The expansion will include an additional asymmetric character class named the Rudiarius, a retired gladiator and veteran of the colosseum with the ability to call in favours to get ahead. That's going to let you manipulate new elements, allowing you to play a little differently and as a new experience.

Physically, you'll see a new Collesseum sideboard, gladiator dice, new shared advisors, a neutral foreman, and new blueprints.

There's a new website for the expansion that you can check out already, and you can sign up on it for any updates and confirmation of dates.
