The Time is Now?

If you smell what The Rock is cooking, you’re probably smelling cardboard, plastic – and, in the case of WizKids, money.

The HeroClix and Dice Masters publisher has announced that it’s struck up a multi-year partnership with WWE that will result in wrestling superstars coming to its collectible miniatures and dice games, as well as the creation of brand new board games based on in-ring icons new and old.

It’ll be the first time that WWE stars will be available as pre-painted miniatures in HeroClix – which also includes DC and Marvel comic-book superheroes, as well as Star Trek characters – and sets of combo-building custom dice in Dice Masters, which stretches across the universes of everything from Warhammer 40,000 to Dungeons & Dragons.

Although WizKids isn’t saying what its upcoming “branded board games” might consist of, it confirms that “boxed strategy games” are among the formats its working on and mentions that it has the rights to use the likenesses of a roster of high-profile wrestlers – so it could be we’ll see even more miniatures in those boxes.

The line-up of superstars will include wrestlers past and present, featuring ‘90s favourites such as The Rock, The Undertaker, Trish Stratus and Stone Cold Steve Austin (the latter two being WWE Hall of Famers) alongside modern-day ‘favourites’ John Cena, Charlotte Flair and Roman Reigns.

The first WWE game in the planned series will be out next year.
