World War I aerial combat miniatures game goes sci-fi

Historical aerial combat game Wings of Glory is taking a surprise left turn into science-fiction with a standalone spin-off based on The War of the Worlds.

Tripods & Triplanes combines the 1917 setting of the original World War I dogfighting miniatures title, which later expanded into covering battles from the Second World War, with the Martian invasion of H.G. Wells’ late 19th-century novel (and the subsequent radio play, movie and musical adaptations).

Players control either the human pilots and planes battling against the Martian threat, or the iconic extra-terrestrial tripods causing destruction across the globe.

Although planes and tripods will be included in the core set, the system is fully compatible with the existing models for Wings of Glory, meaning your existing collection of flying machines can take on the aliens as a singular allied force.

Tripods & Triplanes has been designed by Wings of Glory co-creator Andrea Angiolino alongside War of the Ring co-designers Francesco Nepitello and Marco Maggi and is said to play in about 45 minutes.

Wings of Glory studio Ares Games is putting the new game out and has announced a Kickstarter campaign set to go live on November 28th. The final release date for the game is yet to be confirmed.
