MOBA-inspired Conan board game Savage Legends coming from Forbidden Stars co-designer
A new Conan game is on the way from the co-creator of titanic Warhammer 40,000 title Forbidden Stars.
Samuel W. Bailey, who also designed a number of expansions for Talisman and Elder Sign, as well as troubled sci-fi game Deep, has teamed up with Shinobi 7, which announced that it had acquired the rights to make games based on Robert E. Howard’s Cimmerian warrior late last year.
Bailey’s Conan: Savage Legends is described as being a skirmish-style miniatures board game inspired by the MOBA genre of PC combat games such as Dota 2 and League of Legends.
Players construct a ‘warband’ of characters with individual abilities and items, who enter the arena accompanied by other allies and minions.
The turn-based action involves competitive head-to-head battles in a variety oif environments from the Conan universe, with solo and co-operative campaigns based on Howard’s stories also planned for the game.
Conan: Savage Legends is due to launch a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter later this year; Shinobi 7 previously said that the big-box miniatures game would be released in shops in early 2020. It will be followed by a Conan card game set to head straight to retail sometime in 2019.
