Resistance bomber and TIE Silencer stay on target for miniatures game

The next wave of ships for Star Wars dogfighting miniatures game X-Wing will include two new expansions based on upcoming movie Episode VIII: The Last Jedi.

The sequel to 2015’s The Force Awakens is due out this December and will continue the story of newcomers Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren, as well as returning Star Wars icons Luke and Leia.

While the faces will be familiar, the film’s ships include several new designs for both the First Order and the Resistance sides that Wave XIII of X-Wing offers an early look at.

The first is Kylo Ren’s TIE Silencer, a quick and nimble craft that includes Ren and another unique pilot, plus two non-unique pilots, in its pack. The Silencer also comes with 12 upgrades and Ren’s signature card I’ll Show You The Dark Side, allowing him to store a single damage card on the card, which then takes effect instead of taking critical damage.

The second vessel is the B/SF-17 heavy bomber. A slow but triple-shielded and well-armoured powerhouse, the Resistance ship appeared in the first teaser for The Last Jedi. It’s able to equip a systems upgrade, tech enhancement and two bombs and includes four ship cards and 13 upgrades in its pack, include three copies of Trajectory Simulator, which presents the chance to launch bombs straight ahead instead of dropping them.

Both ship expansions will launch after The Last Jedi, with a planned release in early 2018. The TIE Silencer will cost $30 (£23) and the Resistance bomber $40 (£30), and come with the usual assortment of cards, tokens and templates as every X-Wing pack.
