Judge Dredd gets a new RPG in the form of The Worlds of 2000 AD
A newly-announced roleplaying game will allow you to once again pop on the helmet of Judge Dredd – as well as his fellow 2000 AD comic book companions.
EN Publishing, the firm behind War of the Burning Sky and Zeitgeist, has teamed up with 2000 AD publisher Rebellion to create The Worlds of 2000 AD Tabletop Adventure Game, an RPG system and series covering some of the 40-year-old British comic’s best-known characters and universes.
Unsurprisingly, the first release will cover Judge Dredd, as well as the core Worlds of 2000 AD rules and setting information for Mega City One.
Judge Dredd & The Worlds of 2000 AD Tabletop Adventure Game will allow players to take on the role of citizens and criminals alongside roles as the Judges themselves.
The game mechanics are based on the WOIN (What’s Old Is New) engine, previously used in EN’s sci-fi RPG N.E.W. Dredd has appeared in a number of roleplaying games over the last couple of decades, the last published by Mongoose in 2009 and based on the Traveller engine.
EN's plan is to publish a series of supplements, kicking off with The Robot Wars, that will cover story arcs from 2000 AD with additional original material. The books will follow the Judge Dredd arc chronologically, each volume containing a core scenario plus several mini-adventures from other stories published in the respective comic books.
EN confirmed that it will look to publish further campaign guides for other 2000 AD settings and characters, mentioning ABC Warriors, Indigo Prime, Nikolai Dante and Rogue Trooper as potential future releases.
Developing the game is Doctor Who and Lone Wolf writer Darren Pearce, alongside talent from titles including D&D, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Firefly and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
Of course, EN isn’t the only games outlet working on bringing 2000 AD to the tabletop – UK-based miniatures publisher Warlord previously announced that it would release multiple titles based on the comic book, beginning with an adaptation of space western series Strontium Dog.
