Catan is getting a text adventure spin-off on mobile

Having ruled the tabletop, Catan is continuing its conquest of screens big and small with a new mobile game that will take the classic resource-collector in a completely different direction.

Catan Stories: Legend of the Sea Robbers is described as being an ‘original text adventure’ by developer Asmodee Digital, bringing to mind the retro format pioneered by computer games such as Zork, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and Colossal Cave Adventure.

What this means applied to Catan’s tale of gathering resources and building roads across the titular island isn’t clear, but Asmodee says players will take control of three heroes through what is implied to be a story-driven adventure.

Catan Stories is coming soon to iOS and Android devices, with no PC release confirmed as of yet.

It’s just the latest in a recent burst of digital offerings based on Klaus Teuber’s Spiel des Jahres-winning icon, with Catan coming to everything from virtual reality to the cinema screen in the future.
