Miskatonic Repository follows Dungeons & Dragons’ Dungeon Master's Guild format

Call of Cthulhu is launching an official library of user-made content, allowing fans to sell their custom scenarios and other creations for the horror roleplaying game.

The Miskatonic Repository will be an online platform in the mould of Dungeons & Dragons’ Dungeon Master’s Guild.

It’ll be hosted on roleplaying retailer DriveThruRPG, where fans will be able to upload their creations using official templates for Microsoft Word and Adobe InDesign to keep things consistent.

Call of Cthulhu publisher Chaosium is also putting out art packs specifically designed for the Miskatonic Repository, allowing authors to illustrate their scenarios, spells, cults, monsters, character skills and other content for free.

Once a creation’s up on the site, the author can choose to put it out for free, set a fixed price or offer it through a pay-what-you-want system, with revenue split in a format similar to the Dungeon Master’s Guild, where half the money goes to the creator and the other half is divided between the publisher and retailer.

Content continues after advertisements

The Miskatonic Repository is due to go live later in December, launching with a selection of scenarios for Call of Cthulhu.

It seems that Chaosium will also be using the catalogue of creations as a way to scout new writers for the RPG’s official line of supplements and adventures.

“As organised play grows in the Chaosium player community we're really looking forward to seeing what products people self-start and release through the community content programme,” said Chaosium's director of organised play Todd Gardiner.

“It will be a launching site for writing talent we can use for collaboration in our ongoing OP efforts, and a place we'll be watching keenly for potential writers in our Call of Cthulhu line."
