RPG set for late 2018 launch features focus on consistent metaplot and ‘you are what you eat’ philosophy in mechanics

Big news for RPG fans: a new edition of Vampire: The Masquerade has been confirmed.

White Wolf Publishing made the news official during the keynote talk at its Grand Masquerade event (which also happened to be the 24th anniversary of the game) earlier this month, adding that the fifth edition of the blood-sucking title would be released in Winter 2018.

Several other details also snuck out, as gathered up on Onyx Path Publishing’s fan forum, including the presence of the ‘you are what you eat’ philosophy in the RPG’s disciplines and feeding mechanics – hinting at the possibility of absorbing new skills by drinking the blood of specific victims.

Some of the long-running universe’s established elements will be altered for the latest release, including the Camarilla vampire sect and the psychological temptation to become a bloodthirsty predator, known in-game as the ‘Beast’.

Metaplot will play a significant role in the new edition, with the game taking place before Gehenna, the vampire armageddon which could wipe out the species.

To highlight the in-game narrative’s importance, third-party licensors who release their own work set in the universe will be issued with a ‘bible’ to maintain consistency and relevance with the canon, with White Wolf suggested a future ‘transmedia’ diversification for the franchise.
