Classic factions House Escher and House Goliath to launch with new edition

Necromunda, the beloved miniatures game of battling gang members based on Warhammer 40,000, is coming back with a new edition.

It’s been more than a decade since Games Workshop’s skirmish title last got a big update, but the publisher has confirmed that it will return, erm, sometime. It hasn’t said quite when that will be just yet.

What it has said is that the new edition will launch with revamped versions of two classic Necromunda factions: the nimble warrior women of House Escher and the armoured muscle of House Goliath.

As in the original, the forces are smaller teams than in Warhammer 40,000, with teams of criminal Hive Gangs kitting themselves out with all sorts of sci-fi augmentations and mods before battling it out in the Underhive.

According to designer Andy Hoare (via Little Plastic Soldiers), the new edition will take its cues from the recent eighth edition of Warhammer 40,000 – which we enjoyed very much – and will introduce an action point system akin to that seen in Space Hulk where activating different models and actions costs different amounts of points.

The rules will reportedly include guidelines for combat on various terrain, with terrain included in the starter box alongside the two gangs. Future expansions will follow the format used for Blood Bowl and will ultimately cover all the gangs from Hive Primus, plus Outlanders and Fanatic. There will additionally be some brand new gangs and expansion of the Necromunda lore.

The miniatures will be released as multi-part plastic kits – while there's few solid details on the game, Games Workshop has posted up some images of some of the new models to show off what the revised edition might look like.
