Virtual card game Hand of Fate is dungeon-crawling its way onto the tabletop

Hand of Fate: Ordeals out this November

In a somewhat self-fulfilling prophecy, PC and console card game Hand of Fate is getting a real-life physical adaptation later this year.

Hand of Fate originally came out in 2015, and offered a dungeon-crawling adventure driven by the dealing of virtual cards as the player tries to defeat 12 bosses before defeating the mysterious dealer responsible for the game.

A sequel, Hand of Fate 2, is planned for release later this year.

Joining the follow-up will be Hand of Fate: Ordeals, a tabletop reworking of the video game that expands the player count to support up to four players and offer both co-op and head-to-head multiplayer modes. It also includes a single-player campaign set between the original Hand of Fate and its sequel.

As in the original game, Ordeals sees players drawing cards to generate dungeons, encountering characters, locations and enemies as they attempt to traverse three different levels and defeat three bosses collectively known as ‘the royalty’ – the jack, queen and king.

Essentially a deckbuilder, players gain new abilities and items along the way, equipping better weapons and armour and expanding their roster of attacks.

Hand of Fate: Ordeals has already more than doubled its AUS$30,000 target on Kickstarter, with the single $59 (£46) (plus $12/£9 shipping) backer tier offering the core box with more than 300 cards, five miniatures, a Steam code for Hand of Fate and a backer-exclusive model.

The campaign will run until June 22nd, with the game planned for release this November.
