Prepare to watch your favourite Game of Thrones characters die again, and again, and again: there’s an official miniatures game set in the fantasy universe coming out next year.

More accurately, the miniatures wargame is based on the original A Song of Ice & Fire novels by George R.R. Martin and will feature Westeros’ roster of ‘heroes’ (though not in their TV incarnations) and houses, from the Starks to the Lannisters.

The models will come pre-assembled and are being created in a partnership between Rising Sun, Blood Rage and Zombicide studio Cool Mini or Not and Dark Sword Miniatures, which has been producing pewter figures based on Martin’s series of books for a while.

Apparently the ruleset for A Song of Ice & Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game will support both smaller skirmishes and large-scale wars between hundreds of troops and feature elements including alternating player activations, a rank system that allows units to improve over time, a tactics system with expendable powers and the unique presence of hero characters such as Robb Stark and Jaime Lannister.

The first box set will unsurprisingly pit the Starks against the Lannisters and will launch sometime in 2018, following a Kickstarter later this year.
