Booster-only set will add more than 140 cards and new mechanics

Hot on the hooves of River Horse’s My Little Pony RPG Tails of Equestria, publisher Enterplay has announced a new expansion set for its My Little Pony CCG.

The collectible card game debuted back in 2013 and was expanded by seven expansions, with the last, Marks of Time, appearing last summer.

The eighth set for the title, Defenders of Equestria, is a boosters-only expansion, introducing characters such as Mr. and Mrs. Shy, Plaid Stripes, Sunset Shimmer, Sugar Belle, Big Mac and Sky Stinger.

The characters will be a mix of popular ponies, including new variants of main characters such as Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Applejack and Twilight Sparkle, and former antagonists from the TV show Friendship is Magic who later converted to join the forces of good.

Some of the cards will also feature new gameplay mechanics in the form of the ‘experienced’ and ‘redeemed’ keywords.

Defenders of Equestria will comprise more than 140 new cards, and is due for release at the beginning of May.

You can be sure to see a few more Pony-themed games pop up during 2017 – My Little Pony: The Movie is due out in cinemas this October, and stars the regular TV cast as well as Hollywood actors Emily Blunt, Zoe Saldana and Michael Pena.
