Standalone follow-up to 2015 hidden movement hit

Sneaky stealth hit Specter Ops is getting its first sequel.

The original Specter Ops came out in 2015 and cast one player as a Metal Gear Solid-style solo secret agent creeping around a top secret facility, while up to four rival players attempted to track them down using gadgets and abilities.

Earlier this year, creator Emerson Matsuuchi announced a card game spin-off to the game called Crossfire, which swaps the hidden movement gameplay for social deduction mechanics in the vein of Werewolf and The Resistance.

Now, Matsuuchi has taken the wraps off a full follow-up to Specter Ops subtitled Broken Covenant, which will be a standalone new entry in the series – although both games take place in the same universe as Dead of Winter, taking place in the labs of zombie cure maker Raxxon.

The first details of Broken Covenant do little to distinguish it from its predecessor, confirming that once again a lone agent will attempt to complete objectives while fleeing pursuing hunters.

The player count and estimated play time are also the same, so we’ll have to wait and see whether the box is more than a refreshed selection of maps and powers.

Specter Ops: Broken Covenant is planned for release in late 2017.
