Modiphius’ alt-history setting for Lovecraftian RPG Call of Cthulhu has been taken into a new gentre with the launch of the core rulebook for spin-off miniatures wargame Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish.

Set during World War II like its forebear, Skirmish combines the threat of the Nazis with the menace of Lovecraft’s various cosmic horrors, which Hitler’s forces are attempting to summon forth.

Skirmish is built on the Dystopian Legions 2.0 system, created by Spartan Games for its platoon-level wargame. The engine has been converted by Relic Knights, AE-WWII and Wrath of Kings designer Matthew Hope, with Achtung! Cthulhu designer John Houlihan guiding the narrative.

The first campaign, titled Rise of the Black Sun, will focus on the Allied secret division Section M as it takes on the titular cultist arm of the Axis forces. Rise of the Black Sun will be explored in expansion sets released throughout the next year, which will require the core rulebook to play.

Skirmish uses 28mm figures and is compatible with the existing range of Achtung! Cthulhu miniatures. The rulebook includes stats for historical infantry, support weapons, vehicles and tanks alongside the more fantastical elements of Achtung! Cthulhu, such as Mythos powers, spells and artefacts.

Mythos plays a key role in the game, as the growing Mythos Influence Level inspires increasingly surreal events to occur.

You can pick up a PDF version of Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish’s core rulebook for £7.99 or pay £14.99 for the physical version, which appears to have already sold out on Modiphius’ site.
