Title by Stephen Sauer out this June

Sherlock Holmes has gone through many incarnations during his long tenure in pop culture, but if there’s something we can all agree on, it’s that there haven’t been enough adaptations where the crime-solving genius is a cat.

Fortunately, IDW plans to help undo this great injustice with the upcoming Purrrlock Holmes: Furriarty’s Trail (we’re not sure why they didn’t go with a ‘tail’ pun, either), a short-time card game where Sherlock and Moriarty have been transformed into pipe-smoking, jacket-wearing kitties.

Designed by Stephen Sauer and illustrated by Jacqui Davis, Purrrlock Holmes challenges two to five players – cast as inspectors at Scotland Pound – to arrest members of Furriarty’s gang and help the titular pussycat track down the master criminal.

Exact gameplay details are scant, but the game will include 60 clue cards, all featuring similar 19th-century takes on animals – from geese, crows and dogs to toads and rats. It also looks like there will be a central 12-hour clock board, presumably counting down the hours left to discover Furriarty.

If that tickles your fancy, Purrrlock Holmes will be out this June.
