From mystery in the city that never sleeps, to fantastical inventions and Machiavellian politics.
As we finally beat the mammoth month that is January, it feels we can look ahead to what 2022 has to offer. Thankfully, Osprey have announced their intended line up for their roleplaying games, giving us something to look forward to as we go on.
Releasing first is Gran Meccanismo: Clockpunk Renaissance Roleplaying, which will be available from 18th August 2022. Written by Mark Galeotti, it's the aforementioned game of fantastical inventions and Machiavellian politics, set within Renaissance Italy.
"It is the Year of Our Lord 1510, and one has to wonder how differently history could have played out if Niccolò Machiavelli, the military commissioner of the Republic of Florence, had not understood the true scale of Leonardo da Vinci’s genius. In such a world, the visionary might simply have wasted his time painting portraits of women and doodling in a sketchbook. Instead, he unleashed a technological revolution where primitive computers, decorated with delicately painted cupids, run on water clocks; spring-powered tanks whir across the battlefield, with cannons thundering from their flanks; and gliders flit across perfectly blue Tuscan skies."
Then it's Crescendo of Violence, by Alan Bahr, which will release on the 29th September 2022. This will be an action-packed neon noir roleplaying game set in the Neo York of 2093.
"Welcome to a world of synth-jazz and cybernetics, where the status quo grinds down the hardworking man and vat-grown clone alike. Whether you’re the redemption-seeking gangster, the one good cop in a corrupt system, or the gene-modded musician trying to make it big, you’ll be trying to get by in a city that just doesn’t care."
Following on the 20th October 2022, will be Hard City – a game of mystery and hardboiled action in the city that never sleeps, written by Nathan Russell.
"Stalk the mean streets of a world filled with two-bit thugs, hard-nosed gumshoes, gangsters, and femme fatales, all trying to survive in the concrete jungle. With trouble around every corner, a secret on every lip, and a gun in every pocket, danger is never far away in the hard city."
Finally, Jackals: Travelers on the War Road from J-M Defoggi, releasing on 24th November 2022. This is a supplement for Jackal, which will introduce new rites, talents, and virtues for players as well as an exploration of the history and cultures of the Zaharets
"New rites, virtues, and talents provide further customization options, while adventure hooks scattered throughout the book hint at new menaces to be battled, new challenges to be overcome... and new glories to be won!"
