Complete with gameplay based on the 2d20 momentum system

Achtung! Cthulhu, the roleplaying game mash-up of World War II and Lovecraftian cosmic horror, is getting a PC game spin-off.

Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is a turn-based strategy game set in the universe where the Nazis have allied with creations from Lovecraft’s Mythos, which has been turned into a board game, miniatures wargame, graphic novel and more since it debuted as an RPG five years ago.

Following a group of heroes stuck behind enemy lines as they try to stop a Nazi plot, Tactics is described as a mix of strategy and roleplaying, with a planned ‘light and dark’ system that lets enemies thrive in the darkness while the Allies work best in the light.

The gameplay will also take inspiration from Achtung! Cthulhu publisher Modiphius’ 2d20 roleplaying system, which allows players to build up momentum from successful actions to pull off more impressive feats later on. In the PC game, characters will have momentum abilities, such as taking a snap shot with a pistol or sweeping across a room with machine gun fire, that be combined for a tactical advantage.

Heading up development is Tomas Rawlings, who previously designed Call of Cthulhu spin-off The Wasted Land.

Achtung! Cthulhu is currently up on Kickstarter, but the single-player portion of the PC game has already been funded by publisher Ripstone. The crowdfunding campaign is said to be raising money to add extra characters, including the Native American Pathfinder Demon Hunters squad.

Actung! Cthulhu Tactics is planned for release towards the end of 2018, and is only confirmed for PC for the time being.
