Hasbro and Indiegogo launch search for family-friendly game designers

Indie creators invited to pitch their ideas in hope of winning $25,000 and chance to turn concept into a finished product

If you’re a budding game designer with an idea for the next hit family tabletop title rolling around instead your head, this could be your chance to make it into a real product.

Hasbro and Indiegogo have launched another Next Great Gaming Challenge, after the competition apparently proved so popular when it was launched last year.

The challenge is open to UK, US, Canadian, French and German designers who can pitch an original “face-to-face, family-friendly” game to the board game giant.

Entries will be considered for their gameplay, theme and viability, with five finalists eventually selected to launch crowdfunding campaigns for their ideas on Indiegogo. They will also be given $2,000 and support from Hasbro and Indiegogo to help make the campaigns successful.

Then, next February, a panel of judges from Hasbro – joined by Daymond John from US TV show Shark Tank – will score the finalists on the same criteria as before.

The overall winner will take home $25,000 and be invited to Hasbro’s Rhode Island HQ to work with the team and make their game into a full product.

Last year’s winner was Irresponsiblity: The Mr Toast Game by Dan Goodsell (hopefully a prophetic surname), which was released this year alongside fellow 2015 finalist Hex Casters.

Hasbro runs a counterpart competition in the Spring of each year – this year’s five finalists will reveal their Indiegogo campaigns at Essen next month.

Wannabe designers for the Autumn Game Challenge have until October 23rd to get their entries in.
