‘From the beginning, I wanted to create a campaign system that would be very easy to create additional content for,’ explains Isaac Childres

Isaac Childres, the designer behind big-box legacy title Gloomhaven, has released many of the game’s assets for free online in order to encourage fans to create their own custom campaigns.

The Kickstarter success story raised over $386,000 on Kickstarter in 2015 and has been finally finding its way into the hands of backers and hobby stores over the last few weeks.

Writing on BoardGameGeek, Childres explained that the 200MB file should allow players to craft their own scenarios and “pretty much whatever new content you want” for the already sizeable game.

“From the beginning, I wanted to create a campaign system that would be very easy to create additional content for,” he explained. “Not necessarily for me to create that content, but because I wanted to give players the freedom to expand their world.

“Maybe you're happy with the ridiculous amount of content in the box, but maybe some day you will develop the itch and be inspired you to create your own adventures. Whenever that day comes, know that you are covered.”

Content continues after advertisements

Childres added a request that the assets are solely used for additional Gloomhaven content, acknowledging the internet’s love of pinching freely-available work for a variety of less reputable doings.

You can download the Gloomhaven creator pack from Google Drive. Inside the file are assets for everything from character sheets, monster cards and maps to scenario and quest cards, fonts, glyphs, events, attack modifiers and the scenario book. In short: there’s a lot to dig through.

There’s also a handy guide to creating custom scenarios available, courtesy of Childres himself – will you be giving it a go?
